Took the truck to the above named Ford dealer. Just about 2-1/2 hours later...Cruise control works...AND they installed a set of "nerf bars" to make it easier for my short wife to get in/out of the truck.

Thanks to the community for passing on the information about enabling cruise. MUCH nicer than an add-on kit.
Nice, this is my next mod. I have an 05 xl 5 speed.

Default Cruise

Hi All

This proves the power of this and other forums. I have just installed and had programed cruise control as per this thread.

My truck is a bare bones 07 XL long bed V6 5 speed. I bought it just last year with 15 k KM on it. Absolutely mint. But I did not like no Cruise. At first I asked the dealer and they wanted to change the whole steering wheel for $550 +++. The next option was aftermarket and a stock thing on the column by the turn signal stalk. But I saw this thread on putting the switches in the steering wheel and hit pay dirt.

I ordered the switches at the Ford dealer $147.00 Cdn. I installed as per instructions and beer, on this forum and had the program change done at Ford for $30. And it works. I could not be happier with it.

Thank You, Thank You , Thank You !!!! to the original poster.

As a side note, The service desk did not know anything about doing this and seemed not to care, the Mechanic /Tech, however was keen on dong this with his laptop and reprogram the ECM and learning.

Thanks again Ernie

Ernie - I'm glad this write-up helped you out in your quest to add cruise control! Anymore, I can't fathom NOT having cruise, haha.

Hey guys. I have a 2007 XL without cruise. I bought some switches on eBay and when I opened them up, they did not come with the wires coming out the back as they were supposed to. However I bought them for only $49 and was wondering if anyone knew a way I could get those? The pics are of what I purchased. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You could try to find the wires in a junkyard, but the switches would likely be attached. Likewise with eBay. Try your local dealer I suppose, MAYBE that wiring harness could be purchased separately, but I kind of doubt it, it probably comes with the switches. Only other thing I can think of would be to contact a company that sells the new switches & wiring harness, see if they'll sell you just a wiring harness.

Unfortunately, you're likely stuck with buying a new set of switches that have the wiring harness attached.
