nagata, Nice write up on the cruise! I did the same thing about a year ago. Found a wheel with switches on e-bay. Did it right before I took it in for an instrument calibration recall. Dealership wasn't aware all they needed to do was program it in. The mech that did it said he was surprised at how easy it was. Guess I lucked out, they didn't charge me to do it.

Just did this also, need to still take it to the dealer though. But looks better with the switches in the wheel. I bought 2 sets, the early black ones, and the later model silver ones. Went with the black, so the other set is on E-Bay......1/3 price of new right now.....

That pdf says "don't disconnect the airbag unless you have disconnected the battery." Anyone done this install without disconnecting the battery? I'm not sure if my aftermarket nav system is going to be a PITA if I do.

When I installed the radio, I didn't disconnect the battery before unplugging the cable to the passenger airbad light in the middle of the dash, though I guess it may not be the same thing.

Wife was telling me about some 9V battery thing you hook up to save the memory in your electronics when you disconnect your battery. Might have been at Autozone? If your interested, I will ask

That's a good write up, just what I had to do.

Personally, I would not consider messing with the airbag unless the battery was disconnected. Just too much risk IMO.

Nice post. Explains everything I wanted to know. By coincidence, I ordered the cruise control from M&R Electronics last evening. Mine also cost 128.00 with shipping. So it was a relief to know I ordered just what I needed for a 2006 F150.

Greetings,
Just thought I would add another data point. I have a 2007 F-150 XL V6 with 5 speed. I bought the switch kit (4L3Z9C888AAJ) from Tousley Ford. Took me 15-20 minutes to install the switches in my stock steering wheel. I took to local dealer and they programmed my truck. At first they couldn't get it to work, then the mechanic did some troubleshooting and traced to a faulty clutch wire connection. Anyway he resolved it and the cruise works great!

Thanks for the advice and tips from this site!
