Default how do you know when an ignition coil is bad?

Is there a way to look at the COP or test it to determine if it is bad?

If a coil has gone out, (along with running rough) it should throw a misfire code (P030* [*=cyl.# of misfire]). I always start cheap and go to AutoZone to have the code pulled (and this is the ONLY reason I go there BTW). Once you have the misfiring cylinder identified, I'd start by buying an Autolite platinum plug for that cylinder just so's not to spend a chunk on a coil you may not need. Autolite & Motorcraft are one & the same, so you can save $ there without sacrificing quality as well. If that hasn't resolved the issue, then you'll likely have to move on to replacing the coil to that cylinder. Personally, I recommend Borg Warner because they come with a lifetime warranty, they're reasonably priced, and they're available locally in case you do need to claim a warranty on it. HTH Kk
