How do I properly break in a new engine?
So I got my truck brand new off the lot at the end of 2008. Bought it 3 years later when the lease ran out and got the extended warranty the CFPP. Odometer is just over 91000KM. It's made a ticking noise for a long time now, but with warranty coming up in 6 months I figured I'd take it in to have it looked at. Told them it was probably cam phasers (based on my internet diagnosis), and the dealership said they wanted to check oil pressures and look inside and see if the internals were damaged.
Got the text from the dealership today that the internals are indeed damaged. So their sending the info off to the warranty company and they should be getting back to me tomorrow.
Odds are pretty good that I'll be getting either a brand new or re-manufactured engine put in it. Hopefully new obviously, but CFPP does have the right to use equal or less mileage remann parts. Regardless when I get my truck back with a fresh motor in it I want to know the best procedure for break-in if its required.
I've heard many different things from as many people. With my dirtbike I thermal cycle it twice, then go racing....but this isn't a two stroke...its a 5.4l 3v triton 4-stroke.
I want to keep my truck as long as possible, and want to make sure I treat her right when she gets out of surgery. Whats the best way to break her in so she can live a long healthy life?

If I wanted to do that then I'd need $10,000 for the dixon brothers 4x4 long travel kit and fiberwerx fenders....I'll figure out how to break in the suspension after the lottery hits.
I was wondering more about the engine.

Highway driving and light towing is a good way to run in a new engine. Try to avoid short hop / start and stop driving. A moderate sustained load will get the rings seated the fastest.

Hey Powerranger, I think he wants to break it in, not just break it!! That was pretty funny. Of course when I was younger .....

When the engine has just been rebuilt, (or I guess a brand new one also) on the first start up you are supposed to hold the throttle at (if I remember right) 2000 rpm. That's all the break in there is on modular engines. The only one we rebuilt was a 4v cobra engine and I asked the guy who did the machine work if it was necessary to run it with no supercharger for a little while immediately after rebuild. He said no...
