from what ive read it looks like all FX4s are equipped with a limited slip diff. is this correct?

is there a place i can check with my vin?

Yes.. if it's FX4 it is limited slip diff.
You can also check your truck info sticker on your driver side door.

i actually figured it out and no thats wrong, not all fx4s have a limited slip dif. but you can tell by the door jam emblem under where it says AXLE there are 2 characters:

F-150:
19 – 3.55 Non-LS
18 – 3.08 Non-LS
H9 – 3.55 LS
B6 – 3.73 LS

F-250:
27 – 3.31 Non-LS
26 – 3.73 Non-LS

There is also a metal tag on the rear itself that has the ratio. If its a limited slip it will read 3L55 or 3L73

I just checked my 08 F150 supercrew and under axle it showers the number 26
