Default How To Determine Which Tow Package Is Installed?

How can I tell which tow package my truck is equipped with, (max tow, regular tow) where should I be looking for that info? Should that info show up if I do a vin# search?

I'm also looking at getting a different truck so I'd like to be able to find out what's installed on it.

Thanks.

A "clue" would be to see if you have a transmission oil cooler (in lower front behind the grill). Don't confuse it with the power steering cooler. The trans cooler will have lines running to the transmission.

Your VIN number can be referenced at a Ford dealership. They can access their database and tell you what options your truck came with from the factory. Find a "friendly" parts department worker to assist.

I have the 7 pin (and 4 pin) but build sheet says towing package, not max towing package.

If you have the 4.6L, you for sure don't have the "max tow pkg". I have a 5.4L, it came with the 7 and 4 pin trailer plugs, tranny cooler, 2" hitch and it still isn't the "max tow pkg". The beast you're looking for is a 5.4L, stock 4.10 gears, longbox, maybe supercab, and 7-lug wheels. I try to avoid calling it a F150HD (heavy duty) as it may be misinterpreted as Harley Davidson edition (F150HD)

Thanks, that clarifies it. I'm looking at an 06 Screw FX4 and wanted to know what to look for to avoid some salesman B.S.

Thanks to everyone for all the info, much appreciated.
