Default How can I tell if my spark plugs are the original

How can I tell if my spark plugs are the original or if they have been replaced without taking them out?

Is there a way to look at the top of the plug under the COP and tell if my plugs have been changed?

I don't want to tackle the spark plug change job not knowing. If there is a way to know if they have been changed then that would be a big relief off my shoulders. I am worried to start the change and they be the originals and they break. The truck has 134500 miles on it so I would assumed they aren't the original ones(sure as hell hope not).

Basically, will there be any coloring I need to look for? Will the hole be dirty or anything? I took a quick look and they looked pretty new, clean and white but I would assume they would stay clean with the coils on top.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Original Ford plugs have a white or blue dot on the top.

Do any of the replacement 2 piece plugs have any distinctive markings?

I looked and mine didnt have a white or blue dot on the top..it was just that bronze/gold looking color..does this mean that there is a good chance that they have already been replaced?

Im not sure about the two piece design I havent paid that close of attention to them, but in all my Motorcraft seminars they say they mark the plugs.

Youve gotta be realistic about the plugs; if you have 80k and they look new then they probably arent original.

Had 130k when I bought it and I have put about 4-5k on it now. I would hope they have been changed by now. And I am not having misfires but have drastically decreased mpg. I am getting about 10.5 mpg. I was thinking of changing my plugs and O2 sensors.

Last night I was giving gas and it started stuttering pretty bad and wouldnt gain any speed(Like it was choking). Came to a red light and when I went again I didn't have the problem.(I would guess this is the fuel filter? I really don't know honestly)

And I am trying to be realistic but it has the rubber coil pack over the top, so in theory/realistically it wouldn't be dirty no matter how old it is; that is my thinking. That is why I am asking.

With the symptoms you're describing plugs and COPs check should be first. Try some of these tricks to avoid breaking.
