How bad is a leaking axle seal?

When you repair seals, or bearings, the axle shaft tends to exhibit wear in the form of a groove where the seal or bearing used to be.. So new seals could possibly leak due to even a slight .002 difference in axle shaft diameter. The same wear principals apply to where the factory bearings rolled along the axle shaft..
These repair bearings space the new bearing further to the outside of the axle tube, which consequently gives you a fresh part of the axle shaft to wear down..
The double sealed system forgoes gear oil in favor of grease, to help minimize the chance of leaks due to new parts installed on worn components.
They are also great at saving slightly worn axle tubes, and basically ensuring a leak free repair..
They tap right in nicely if you use your old bearing race to act as the bearing driver..
I noticed my old seals collected a lot of dust, dirt and rust chips that stuck like glue to the leaking.. Just like a shelf for dirt.. This did wear a slight groove on my axle seal. The new bearings sit flush with the axle tube, so there is now no way for the repair seal to generate the kind of build up the factory seal did...

great write up especial86....I replaced both seals with standard ones...if I have a leak again I will most definitely being using the set up you've shown...but I used royal purple with the friction modifier already in it....do I still need to add more friction modifier?
