Yeah, I was a little disappointed too. I figured with the small engine and the manual transmission, I'd be getting better but like its mentioned above, the window sticker says 15 city/29 highway, so you're getting what its supposed to get.

@gforrest2. Glen is an awesome name, its mine too. I had a 1999 f150 with a 4.2 v6. It held 25 gallons of fuel, i got an average of 100-125 kilometers to a quarter tank, 500kms max on a full tank, I babyied it until i was rearended xmas 2010 by a damn chevy truck, then pushed into an infiniti g35 that was coming headon to me. Long story to post here. My baby was written off, so i have a newer ford truck.

Pick up 4 cans of B12 and run them thru a tank of 87 octane. That should clean out a lot of gum and carbon. Throttle body should whistle clean up.

I have only filled up my tank once since I purchased it a little over a month ago. I own an '07 4.2l 4spd auto 2wd single cab short bed. I am fixing to fill it up here soon and I will report back with my gas mileage. When I get my tax money back I'm putting some money in the truck as far as new plugs and wires, fuel filter, Gotts mod (yes I know it is only $10ish but it can wait), I know there is more...

Wow, this is somewhat of a relief for me. Now that I know I'm not the only one with these kind of results, I can stop worrying. Thanks for the input everyone.. I feel better..

Just because you have a smaller engine doesnt (necessarily) mean you'll get better gas mileage.
As long as the laws of physics still apply you'll still need the same amount of energy to accelerate your mass and maintain it's speed whether it's coming from a V8 or a 6.
By going with a 6 you're engine will still need to 'process' the same amount of fuel as a V8 and since you have 2 less cylinders, it means your engine is going to spin faster…
is your engine downshifting a lot? more than normal to get up-to-speed, maintain your traveling speed?
