The best advice I ever read about getting better gas mileage on a F150 was somewhere on this forum. The advice was to park the F150 and buy a Prius!

I have a friend who has an F150 with a V8 and he gets anywhere from 16-18 mpg city.. Thats a V8.. This is a 4.2 V6.. A dinky motor :/ I'm thinking maybe the truck is under powered. I've had the O2 sensors checked recently, they were fine, had my MAF cleaned and I have OEM size tires and rims..
I'd like to see a V8 get 18 in the city...even with custom tunes, intake, exhaust etc. 18 is pretty high for the city.

I have a 2006 f150 with a 5.4 3v. Its a crew cab with a 6.5ft box. I figured it out, i get 10mpg, and i baby it 99% of the time. I think the fuel door opens automatically within a block of any gas station. I love my truck, so it dont bother me too much.

I've got an '08 XLT with the 5.4L. I get between 18 and 20 mpg. Then too, I'm out in the country. There aren't any stop signs or lights for MILES. And, I get to go minimum 55mph just about everywhere I go.

Just filled up my '06 with the 4.2 V6 and manual transmission. I got 14.3 mpg. I generally get in the 15 mpg range unless it's all highway, and then I get about 19.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed too. I figured with the small engine and the manual transmission, I'd be getting better but like its mentioned above, the window sticker says 15 city/20 highway, so you're getting what its supposed to get.

plug in a code reader and record the info. freeze frames and I/M tests. If all looks good replace your exhaust. Add air psi to your tires get them up there in the middle 30's, rid the truck of a ton of excess weight. Turn in your mirrors when on the highway. Lower your front air dam an inch. Remove the 6" fog lights and front grill guards. Have front end checked for allignment. Add injector cleaner and isopropyl alcohol to gas tank. Change your motor oil to 5 w 30 best synthetic. Shut off motor at all stops and don't do warm ups. Roll thru all stops, even stop lights if no one coming. Trace your route to take the fastest, shortest, downhill roads. Keep speeds below 62 mph. Run 87 octane in cold weather but add isopropyl with fill. Check back later.
