Horrible gas mileage, HELP!

Just got rid of an old gutted 89 Motorhome with the 460 in it... Drove it from Columbus to Cincinnati and was able to get right about 12 miles to the gallon without O/D. Wish I had something to put that motor and tranny in, they were perfect and only 56K miles.

I just figured out my mileage for my last 3rd of a tank. I got 14.25 MPG and most of it was highway with some other roads. I was kinda hard on the gas but not too bad. my tires are at a pretty low PSI(27ish). I expected a little worse and I have a 2000 5.4 4x4

If you're hard on the gas, the mileage suffers. Period. There's no "not too bad" in the equation.

i run premium in mine (lift level kit, 33x12.5 tires, intake and exhaust) i average my gas every single tank. and averaged 11-13, installed an edge evol and now a dead constant 13.5 when all city driving, and when warmer (summer time, im in WI) i can get into 15 mpg every now and then. But reality is, is that the 5.4 is not that good of a mileage motor plan and simple. It disapoints me also, but it is what it is, otherwise iam very happy with my truck.

Did your fuel economy drop off suddenly or has it always been around those numbers? My '04 5.4L SCrew was getting 14mpg city on one tank of fuel, 10mpg the next, 8mpg on the next tank.
I wasn't gonna wait till it dropped further and had the dealer look at it. They noticed a rough idle and valve-train noise. After replacing the cam phasers and rocker arms I'm back up to around 13.5mpg city.

Sticker says 13 city 17 highway (on 08)...I think I usually got around 12 around the city and mines an 08 FX4...If its an 04 how many miles? Ever run injector cleaner through the motor? Spark Plugs? Air Filter? Oil Change? I have an exhaust, intake, and edge now and I think i get close to 14 in the city now when i really really nurse it.

Hey Pitts, friend of mine loves to brag about how fast his dodge is with his hemi. Truth is, he has to run it @ 4k rpm or higher to beat me on the graph and i never get my truck above 3k to do the things that I need it to do. So the extra horses are useless in my opinion.
