If you build up some clearance on the underside of the panel, it will give you room to tuck the hinge pin on most common hinge designs.

I made mine hinge off my truck box and then hinge in the middle to fold over my truck box. It held up great for about a year, until I lost my temper and through an old water heater on top if it during a snow storm.
