Thank you. Actually had to make a sheet metal brake to bend the scoop. First time working with 16 gauge.

After a second look, it looks like that ductwork would do a very good job of ADDING heat to the intake air - aluminum, and in the very best spot to absorb high underhood temperatures.

Here's a way to find out - you have a Livewire (with full datalogging of all PID's as part of the functionality) - log IAT's during yer normal stop&go routine. Do it with the scoop 'active', and repeat the routine with it blocked off.

Note any differences and post 'em up. I'm genuinely curious. Overly high IAT's kill power; the PCM pulls timing to save the motor and in extreme cases dumps in more fuel fer cooling.

At speed ( steady ~40 mph and above), there is so much air exchange in that largely open engine compartment that this issue of elevated IAT's would be moot.

Awaiting some data. Git 'er did, Cooter!

Cheers!

Data's in. I'll post temps in Fahrenheit.

Route: 20 minutes. 2 stop lights through town, then a long stretch of 50km/h - 60km/h - 80km/h - 60km/h - park and idle for 1 minute.

Run 1: Scoop Open
Ambient Temp: 37F
IAT Low/High: 34F/48F

Run 2: Scoop Closed
Ambient Temp: 37F
IAT Low/High: 40F/54F

Run 3: Scoop Open [Again]
Ambient Temp: 36F
IAT Low/High: 34F/44F

Here are the screens so I don't have to type everything else out:

Run 1:

Run 2:

Run 3:

Boy would I have a hard time cutting that hole in the hood, its makes me cringe just thinking about it. Cool to see though man, it'd be interesting to see how much those differences in intake temperature affect hp and mpg.

Creativity seems to be a disappearing thing in today's world. This is definitely creative and it'll be pretty awesome if it proves functional.

Thanks, man. Haha, yeah, I was a little nervous making the first cut. The sheet metal on the top layer is surprisingly thin. 24 gauge, maybe?

Thanks . So far, seems to be working as intended. No squeaks or rattles from the duct on the underside of the hood, either. Everything's buttoned-up and tucks in nicely.

So how much has your torque and HP increased? Also how much has your MPG's increased. We can talk about lower IAT's all day, but it really means nothing if performance hasn't increased.

Having no access to a dyno, I'm not sure. I've never run a 1/4 mile before, but I will be for the first time in about 3 weeks. There's a casual Drag meet ["Armdrop Dragracing"] that operates in my area a few times in the summer on an abandoned air strip. It's all legal and organized by volunteers, but there's no timeslips - just line up and head-to-head. But I'll be using my Livewire to log 1/4 runs, so that'll give everybody some idea, anyway. Should be interesting. I have some 0-60s logged from before the intake and scoop, and I usually ran somewhere in the 7.5-8 second range, but it varies in weather and temperature conditions, as I usually use a county road. There aren't many long & level stretches of road out here. And I'm always a little paranoid of getting ticketed by provincial police, haha. I'll post results from the drags. First one this year is May 21st - http://armdropdragracing.com

And as for MPGS, mine are always garbage because of the sequencing of the lights in my town. Before the intake and scoop, I averaged about 14 MPG. My friend's got a bone-stock 2007 Escape with the 3.0L V6, but rarely uses the highway, and he gets worse mileage than I do.
