Default Hole in firewall

N the firewall on the drivers side is a hole with a rubber cap in it and the material is cut to access this hole. Is tht hole just to run wire down to the engine compartment?

I pulled my subwoofer power wire through a grommit in my fire wall on the passenger side, between the battery and fire wall, it comes out behind the glove box

Yea I used electrical tape to tape my power wire to a steel rod I had and jammed it through, I did it when it was cold out so it was a pain to push though, that rubber gets tough
