hid problems
i got an hid kit for my truck about a month n a half ago, it was fine for about 2 weeks, then the passenger side ballast went bad. they sent me a new ballast, but now my high beams dont work. does it need a relay inline with these kits? none of my vehicles in the past needed a relay.

The ballast has nothing to do with your high beams, if the high beam is out and its a single bulb enclosure you probably want to troubleshoot the solenoid for the cutoff shield.

im thinking its because of it being a cheap ebay kit...the high beams worked fine till i replaced the ballast box, now after another 2 weeks, the passenger side went out all together again. does it need a relay inline?

The golden rule applies here: buy cheap, get cheap.
Should I ask if these HID's are in a set of projection headlight assemblies, or did you simply install them in your stock headlights? If the latter, do yourself and the rest a favor and remove the HID's. All they do is splatter light (most of which does nothing in the way of making nighttime driving visable, and it's annoying to on coming drivers. HID's are designed to work with projection type headlight assemblies.

I imagine it looks like this:

They are 8k in the headlights and 3k in the fog lights. I have never had any issues with them in any other vehicle ive owned. Thats why im asking if they need a separate relay or something besides whats in the harness

Fixed the problem with no high beams....fuse was blown. Took hid kit off and sending it back to the company. Going with another kit. Vvme, ive had them on 10 other vehicles with no problems

Another issue I had with mine is that we have the Daytime Running Lights here in Canada... However the issue I had also applies to auto headlights. Basically if you leave the position in auto, then start the engine, the headlights are turned on and the voltage drop is hard on the ballasts. It's never blown my ballasts when I ran it but I did later add a relay in to kick the lights off during cranking. I did this to lower load and because my lights would flicker like mad during cranking. Being a cheaper kit though, that might have impacted it. Just a guess.
