hesitation under acceleration, cam phasers?
Hi all, new to forums, new to Ford, and new to F-150's. 20+ year GM guy giving Ford a try. I bought a 2004 F150 and have 2 issues that may be related. 1-My cam phasers are bad and need to be replaced, no doubt in that. 2-I have a hesitation when accelerating, it will clear up when more throttle is applied, doesn't feel like misfire, just kind of bogs down and catches back up with more pedal. Has anyone had this issue and clear up with a cam phaser replacement? In my mind the computer system is trying to make adjustments to the cam/timing and with bad phasers the adjustment is lagging. Any thoughts?

How many miles? Has it had a tune-up; Plug change, coil packs, throttle body cleaning, MAF cleaning, fuel filter change etc?

Ok, I've yet to have timing issues so no experience with them failing. Very well may be your issue, I'm sure someone will chime in who's had them go out.

This is what mine did prior to dropping a chain. Low rpm acceleration was delayed replaced MAF and TPS with some improvement was going for VCT solenoids next. I decided to just replace the whole motor than put $2500 into a engine with 233k miles. Got a good deal at@ $6200 installed from the dealer w/ 3 yr unlimited mileage warranty.
Get the timing looked at BEFORE it drops. Parts to do it yor self run@ $1500 i did not have the time or a good space.
