hesitation at 50-55 mph
Hello everyone, I am not only new to this forum, I am also a new truck owner.
I recently purchased a 2005 F150 Lariat Supercrew with a v8 5.4 Triton engine with 37k miles.
The truck runs fine for the most part, however, while I am driving if I maintain a constant speed between 50 and 55 mph the truck will occasianally feel like it studders for a second then continues with a smooth ride for a few minutes then it happens again. At higher or lower speeds I do not feel this hesitation.
Can anyone make suggestions as to what this may be? I thought of changing the spark plugs but I am not sure thats the problem.
The truck has a K & N air filter system and 2 air scoops on the hood.
Please help!
Thanks war569

Have a few questions to ask and maybe stir up some action for you. This is an automatic, right? If so, when this condition occurs is there any RPM change on the tach? Is there any CEL activity?

If it is an automatic, de-select the "OD" (overdrive) option just to see if it goes away. If it does, that tells me it's a transmission problem.
By the way, before you go and change those spark plugs (which I doubt is the problem; if they were the culprit, you'd have this problem at varying speeds), do a search on 5.4 spark plugs. They are a nasty thing to have to do. Don't want to scare you, but the 5.4 uses a shall we say "special plug" that is prone to break when removing, causing the ceramic part to stay in the hole. Do a search here to find what others are doing to make the plug removal easier (with fingers crossed).

It is an automatic
I haven't noticed any change in rpm's. I will look for that when I drive home today.
I will turn off the overdrive as well and let you know the outcome.
I will also research the spark plug removal issue you mentioned. Thanks for the heads up.
As I am a novice, I have 2 questions to ask:
1. What is CEL activity?
2. What is COPs? (i read something about this in conjunction with spark plugs)
Thanks all

I live in Sunrse, War. Though, don't count on me for any advice. I'm the forum idiot!
Though, I do believe CEL stands for "Check Engine Light". Beyond that, the experts will have to assist you.

-OK I tried turning the overdrive off - still happens
-I did not notice any change in the rpms - however it happens so quickly that by the time I look at the rpms, it may be too late to notice anything.
-The check engine light is off and has never turned on
Thanks for the assistance.
