Hesitation

I have/had the same problem and the dealership did a PCM upgrade that seemed to help out but didn't totally solve the problem. I find that you have to find that sweet spot in the gas pedal. I say sweet spot because most of the time when you floor it doesn't shift to the lowest gear possible for the speed you're going. Just fiddle around and see if your throttle acts like mine...most of the time it's around halfway to 3/4 of the way to the floor to get the shift I want.

The Same
I called Ford and asked to speak to a tech and it is a torque protector to protect your transmission so I guess we will have to deal with it and let the Chevys pass us going up hills

No problem with that, we'll just pass them a few miles later when they are sitting by the side of the road with their hoods up.

it is because of the drive by wire throttle, a reflash like the dealership did will help, a tune helps a lot, and theres actually a way to take the pedal apart and put the wire brushes so that theres a lot less lag.

Sounds like bullsh*t to me! I have driven other 5.4's 07 and '08 and they don't have that pause hesitation like my '06 does.

my 08 does something similar and i asked at the dealer and they just said thats wierd. So i told them ill put it to the boards everywhere and blow it up then they can replace it under warrenty.

sounds like a possible coil problem. i had a lincoln ls before my truck and a common problem on it was the COPs would go bad and i would experience the same problem when trying to pass or when applying more then normal pressure on the gas, it would studder bad. a lot of times it wouldnt even throw a CEL until it got really bad.
