I just installed a 6" lift on my 2005 Supercrew 4x4 and now the front end starts humming when I get over 45mph. I already re-clocked the front driveshaft but that didnt seem to help. The u-joints are still in good shape and not loose. I took the front driveshaft out and the noise stopped. Can anyone give me any ideas of what to check or look for? PLEASE...

I don't know what your noise is! but on my truck I hade a noise - vibration above 45 after my 6" lift also. The shop re-timed my frt drive shaft with no change also. I found that there was a vac leak causing the frt hubs to engage. once that was fixed I was good.

Vac needs to be on when in two wheel drive. no vacum in 4x4

My knee jerk reaction is that your symptoms are created by the tires.

The more aggressive the tread pattern, the louder the tire.

Further, you've lengthened the suspension geometry. So, the chance of any sort of "harmonic" noise translating into vibration is also increased.

He said the noise stopped when he removed the drive shaft, and since the tires were still rolling when he test drove this possibility, I'd rule them out.

Sounds to me like the front joints do not like that angle. How many miles are on them (front joints)? Have them replaced and re-install the drive shaft. Have a shop balance that front shaft as well.

I have been messing with this same problem in my 2003.. I have change Front hub bearings , shocks, CV axles , Checked vac Lines, I even checked the U joints the best I could... I have 4 conclusions left .. U joints have seized up, Transmission probs due to coolant leaking into trans from a bad radiator detreating the fluid, rear end bearings or the infamous out of round or un balaced tire...

Well I know its not the u-joints, and I also know its not the tires because I haven't even put my 35's on yet. Like I said, the humming/vibration will stop if I take out my front driveshaft. I talked to a buddy and he told me that I need to have my driveshaft rebuilt and put a CV joint on the back side of it, but when I called and talked to the manufacturer of my lift the tech told me there is no way I should have to do that.

It seems to me that the first thing I need to check is the vacuum lines. Any other suggestions???
