Default Vacuum

Dale you should have vacuum going to the 4x4 actuators when you turn it to four wheel. Read through the post, I almost guarantee it's the same issue...

Although...i've also found that a loud whining noise (drones out the radio) can come from the engine. Lots of mechanics will point to leaking intake gaskets. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM!!!

The problem is...prepare yourself...the alternator! trust me, if you get a hissing noise like that it definately is the alt. Had it happen to mine, and that was the fix!

On My new truck I had a simular problem I took it to the shop that did the lift. I told them that it felt like the hubs were locked - not knowing anything about the workings of the hubs. the suspension shop told me it was all good YEAH RIGHT!
I read up on the working of the VAC hubs. So I took my vac guage and Vac pump. I went to invertigate and found that the right hub was missaligned due to a Bad machining of the bearing - hub retainer (the big aftermarket arm) and wouln't hold vacum - thus the hubs were engaged all the time!
The shop couldn't see or figure this out. So I only brought the part back for the exchange and showed the shop what flaw was found. I guess it is a pro comp problem. Now everything is fine but SO MANY shops that hurry and don't look. I owned my own shop for years and boy some of the mechanics I saw!!!!!!! Many are good but they don't work cheap! I was a tech for many years and it was hard to pull the whatever over on me.

umm..read my latest post...guaranteed if it's a high pitch whistle/squeeling noise when it gets cold out it is definately the alternator...

Default Hubs not depending on vacuum??

Does any one know if there is an after market hub replacement for these trucks? Or a hub that does not depend on vacuum keeping it disingaged?
