Taking apart and tinting the inside is more work and you're still going to have to tint the outside.... I have tinted tail lights on 2 trucks i have owned, I have a buddy with a custom shop and he only tints the outside. even if you tint the inside the outside is still going to be red. maybe a little bit darker red BUT still red.... doesnt make sense to me to risk damaging the housing by baking it, taking it apart, spraying the inside, putting it back together then having to tint the outside too.... sounds like you are trying to reinvent the wheel with 2 triangles while blind folded.

I did mine just like everyone else and they turned out great!
step 1. remove housing
step 2. wet sand
step 3. clean very well with Duplicolor Prep Spray
step 4. spray light coats of nite shades.

I did 3 coats and its not too dark to see the brake lights

They aren't very glossy at all. And I did at least 6 coats of clear gloss and then even buffed with Meguiirs. They might be a little too dark so I may pull them off and clear coat some more and put LEDs in there at the same time.

That's the common misconception, is that clearcoat makes things glossy, smooth and just like OEM paint.. It doesn't, and especially from a $7 rattlecan of Krylon Clear or DupliClear..at least not for me.. I would wetsand the clear down until its pretty dang smooth (doesn't require too much sanding, just play it by feel), then buff/buff/buff.. I was super surprised at how that stuff worked.. I've never sanded too many things or ever used polish or compound, but man.. Thing worked like a charm. Maybe someone else w/ more experience will holler & enlighten you a little more on how to make them a tad glossier

Nightshade is junk. It will fade and looks like poo. It will definitely look like a $12 job cause that's what it is. Take them somewhere and have them sprayed candy black and clear coat them with real clear not rattlecan. I had mine done for $50.

I like the color of the night shade but like I said I kinda like the look of flat black

But I like the taped off reverse light look but either way it looks better than stock!

Nice Shadrix.. Hmm, FX4.. did your bumpers/rocker panels come a different color or are they the same color as everything else like the FX2's? White looks good. Those tails and third brake look legit!! Look to be about the same darkness as mine, man I think they really pop w/ the white/black on our trucks.. Looks good, playa!!!

Ha, right. I just took mine off last weekend (I like them, just pure boredom) and honestly our trucks look great WITH or WITHOUT them.. I've seen countless pictures with them on, and then off, and it doesn't change how I view the truck at all.. I have mine off now and love the clean/sharp look.. If anything, the truck might appear to look a tad taller.. I have a 2WD Lariat, so I'm not trying to be the tallest truck out there.. They come on stock and are a bit of a "luxury" option, so I feel like plain jane without them on.. But at least it's only 16 bolts to take on and off!! I might $%*! around and plastidip the chrome with white. They look so clean on the FX2's with the PTM running boards. I think the white with black plastic directly on it would give it a cool look.. Nothing permanent, but something for the heck of it.. I might do that today actually... Yeah, headed home now.. I'll PM you a few pics of them.. Lol!
