HELP ! Messed up the heat barrier/padding on undercarriage when power-washing
Hello All,
1st time poster on this GREAT forum site and have gained some good info from here in the past.
OK here goes...Ran truck into a ditch other week. While power washing the under-carriage of my 20067 extended cab 4 x 4 , 5.4 L, I blew off about 12 sq/in of the silver (heat barrier, blanketing that is above/beside the trans wiring etc. on the passenger side near the cat converter. (I'm not talking about the real heat shield). It appears to be attached by the factory by plastic body push in rivet plugs.
I don't understand why Ford would install it there as it's not waterproof anyway. Not saying that the pressure washer didn't smoke it...
NOTE: This IS on th e underside of the floorpan not in the cab.
Anyway. I want to replace the damaged part. I found some on SummitRacing.com but don't know which one is like the OEM stuff. Is this it ?
Anyone work in a Ford Dealer parts department ?

Also are there any ideas on how to attach it ? Mechanically, (buy the adhesive backed type), ty-wraps, rivets, self-tapping screws...
ANY suggestions on this would be grateful.
Also, the stuff that was blown off by my carelessness looked like jute almost. I suppose it's fireproof fiberglass or something.
Well, Thanks in advance…I know it’s not a normal question…

It's a heat shield used to protect against the cat's heat and the passenger side floor board. It (CAT) can get quite hot, so I'd replace the barrier padding with that shown in any one of the three links. The second link says their padding is rated at 2000 degrees; I don't think a CAT gets that hot.
I've also seen the stuff for sale at Home Depot, and Pep Boys, but theirs requires some silver tape to help hold it down. Make sure the panels are good and clean, or you can try re-using the plastic snap clips that the factory factory padding used to hold it in place.
