So tonight on the way home from work I noticed every time I let off the gas the truck would jerk hard. It only has 57k on it fuel filter was changed around 7k ago. Plugs coils have never been changed PCV never changed and I haven't gotten around to cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body yet. Please help this is my only vehicle and she's my baby. By the way it's an 08 with the 4.6.

what do you mean by jerk like would it pull to one side, would it clunk, would it have a hard downshift. ect. what did it feel like?

I will guess plugs, even with low mileage, they can still develop cracks from heat in the porcelain and cause misfires.

Maybe this would explain the slightly louder than normal tick at idle and the rough idle to?

slightly louder tick at idle can also be the spark plug(s) are not torqued down properly. BTW, the fuel injectors tick kinda loud as well on these trucks.

Well when I popped the hood I found my air filter had fallen off the intake tube so now off to the parts house for some cleaner. Could this have caused the problem perhaps?

And how should I go about cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body is it necessary to disconnect the battery

Some say you can clean the throttle body without taking it off, I disagree. It's not the hard to take it off the truck, and give it a good scrubbing with a toothbrush and cleaner. For the MAF, take it out and spray it and let it air dry. Don't wipe it with anything or you will be shelling out for a new one.
