I hear about this being a common issue ( I believe prior to 07), but I've owned 2 05's with the 5.4 and love them, not a single issue aside from a cylinder misfire, which turned out needing the spark plugs swapped. It is a hit and miss of course with every truck, I understand that... but with the higher mileage, I could see that starting to be more of an issue.

As far as the 5.0 goes, my father in law owns an 2010 f150 with the 5.0 and loves it. He tows his boat and toy hauler here and there and says there's not much struggle at all... anyways, good luck. post some pics of the new rig when/if you get one!

You mean 2011 5.0? 09-10 had the 5.4 and 4.6 V8's.

To the OP, if you find a 2011 5.0 for a fair price be aware that some (not all!) had a few issues with the cylinder walls. I know several people with the 09 and 10 5.4 that have no issues at all. I owned an 09 4.6 and absolutely loved that truck. It didn't tow like the 5.4 or my current truck, but it did it's job just the same. The 4.6 has probably the fewest problems of the Ford engines that I'm aware of. Pretty solid little motors.

IMHO you should trade up at least a couple years as said before. Good luck.

The 09 and 10 5.4's had better designed cam phasers, better designed spark plugs, and didn't have manifold warping issues as far as I know. I haven't heard of any major issues with the 09-10 5.4's, which could just be because I don't have one.

Well it was finalized in 2010. Lol. So it could go either way.

its tough finding a truck right before winter, dealerships are wanting to sell but not go down as low as I want for their trucks. i just wish i could drive it. i put 10w-30 with 1 and half of lucas addatives and its still running low RPMs it wont stall just run 650RPM and just stay there when driving... my engine light finally popped on for the Cam shaft postion sensor... but i dont feel like going and replacing a sensor if im just trying to trade it in. anyways. thought id up date you on it. and the new truck search is kinda of a pain in the ***.
oh well
thanks guys!

I think he's referring to destroying your catalytic converters from raw unburnt fuel being dumped into them.
I would be more concerned with the unburnt gas washing down the cylinder walls thus destroying your engine.
