Default HELP Gauge Cluster issues? not sure

I have a 2004 f-150 5.4L and lately my fuel gauge has been showing completely off. also my oil pressure gauge was maxed out for a few day and now its working again. i can hear a faint grinding noise behind my gauges when the fuel gauge cycles when i turn the key on and off. I'm not sure if its an electrical issue or if i simply could check a fuse. can gauge clusters go bad? i don't want to order one and replace it for no reason… please help me figure this out

What type of dash? I had an issue with the speedo not returning to 0 on my 2004 Lariat. Did what I think was a HEC test. Key Off, hold the Setup & Reset buttons down, turn the key forward (don't start). Let go of the buttons and it went to "Check gauges". The gauges cycled and my speedo has worked ever since.
