That's why when you call them for a price they put you on hold so they can work up the courage to give you a price that will floor you. You can almost hear them swallow hard too

My cats are gone. Dual exhaust and just have to live with the check engine light for downstream O2 sensors. Bought the truck that way. Alabama has no emission tests.

I'm not tying to bash dealerships but they have huge overheads and have to pay for them somehow. Online retailers don't even stock or own wharehouses in some cases and can offer lower prices on most items because of that

Bash away, my friend. My dealership quoted $1600 got OEM and $1050 for aftermarket. I was in a jam so I had them do the $1050. What sucks is it slowed all mods going on the truck.

If I could've saved a few hundred I would have done that.

That's ok, I paid them $200 to diagnose a problem I'm having only to tell me that they couldn't find anything. The service manager was a little hobbit jerk too. I had to bite my tongue the whole time I was there. Ford dealer near me is even worse, there are signs and protesters walking around them on a regular basis because of one thing or another.

Mine is actually great. They did my cam phasers, timing chain, tensioners, guides, VCT solenoids, and replaced a head/rocker arm all under warranty. They also did the plug replacement for $345 without breaking anything. When they told me about the cat they said they were going to try and find something cheaper but we're unable to. If I knew that I could have ordered a Flowmaster or other brand for cheaper I would have done it (probably would've ordered an exhaust to go with it and told the wife it was necessary haha).

I was just astounded at the prices they gave me though.

Thank you for agreeing with me! I'm a highschooler with a minimum wage job there's no way I could pay for that if I wanted to! I figured they were just feeding me bull.

Michigan has no emission tests either, so if it really is the cats not the heat shields, I'll just strait pipe it to some borla S-type mufflers.

We would recommend checking the exhaust out before buying replacing anything. Heat shields love to move around and contact the exhaust all the time. If you determine it is in fact a bad cat, we offer OE-grade universal units which would work on your FX4 and only run about $120-150 each, depending on which one needs replacing. The part number for the small cats is 51176; larger ones is 51355. Let us know what you find!
