I plan on giving it to my son as it is now paid off, he'll be 16 in 4yrs. But if I'm paying for the labor anyway shouldn't I get a lift put in while they're at it? And maybe an exhaust system? I wonder if that would cost a lot more? Thanks for the input y'all, I hear this shop"does good work they're just a little high". But hearing y'all's input reassures me.

Sounds like highway robbery to me, however I can pull an engine myself and save all that labor. Like mentioned above though, could you find another truck with a new motor and warranty for less? Likely not.

I was quoted a remanufactured engine from Precision Engines @$2600 -$2800. LKQ and a few others a little under $3,000. ALL with a 3/36 warranty.

I have consistently had shops on the southside of ATL tell me they would do the swap for a grand in labor.

Sure there could be some misc. parts and what not. But still....

I would not pay over $4,000 to $4500 for it.

Doesn't Clark Howard and Dave Ramsey always say to fix your car VS buy another? maybe its just VS buying new? Lol

? Is there a LOT of extra things they will try and tack on?

If the company with the motor says they'll sell it for the price they quoted ($2800), and a few different mechanics in my area said they will do the labor for $1K. My math comes to $3800 before tax. Sure, I have to add sales tax (7% = $266) and other misc. parts I may want/need them to replace while they are at it. But I don't see that being over $4500 TOPS.

Just make sure the shop gives you a quote for the labor and not an estimate. Apparently there is a legal difference with quote meaning this is what its going to take and estimate being what they think it will take but is still open ended in case things don't go their way.

Well, talked the shop today, my wife was the one doing all the talking as my work schedule keeps me very busy. Apparently she used the words "make this truck new again we'll be giving it to my son in a few years" lol. So I'm getting basically a new suspension, they're fixing my windows that won't roll down, throwing in the reman engine and replacing everything under the hood that needs replacing an they're standing behind all they're work for 3years. And I have it all in writing.

I was supposed to have it back by Thursday of Friday, but I told them to hold off, I figured since I was gonna pay for the suspension with labor anyways I should go ahead and get a lift...there supposed to call me back with pricing today...so hopefully ill have my truck back by this time next week. Since I guess u can call this the official start of a "project" I'll be posting a YouTube link when I get it back.

Sweet, it's gonna be a completely different rig! What sort of lift are you thinking?
