Not very familiar with your vintage - but what you describe sound like a classic blower motor resistor failure - typically about $20 at the local auto parts store. Hardest part is finding it.

I agree.......It is a blower motor resistor most likely..........I think it is on the firewall down by the passenger's feet.

the fact it only works on high sound like a resistor, but could also be a faulty heater controll.the resistor is always close to the blower motor in the heater housing.(regardless of make or model)good place to start.go to a local recycler.i would rather an oem part over a china/japan part anyday.

Hi guys, I have the exact same problem with my 06 screw, 1,2,3 don't work. Just 4, Except that the interior light up by the rear view mirror is out as well (left hand side) would this be a fuse issue or just a coincidence?

Hi Folks,

I came on here looking for more info on the blower resistor. If you have the manual controls, look at the thread on "blower motor resistor," it has a great picture of where it is located behing the glove box.

My resistor kept speeds 1 & 2 from working. I bought an OEM from Ford for $22.17, yesterday and it is working fine now.

The additional info I need is about how hot the resistor pack should be, the new one was hot enough to melt plastic on the outside of the blower housing. I turned it on to make sure it was working before I screwed it back in place and it melted the plastic. If it isn't supposed to be that hot to the touch then I have something else wrong in the blower system and this resistor won't last very long.

Hope to get some clarification ~thanks

Should not be that hot. Ford would not have designed an electrical circuit or component to get that hot and cause a potential fire hazzard (melting plastic is hot!!!).

Happy New Year!

Thanks for the reply. Something on my '99 F150 cruise control was replaced because it got too hot and caused fires.

Weird that the resistor pack would get so hot; its a solid state resistor pack. Do you know if there are any specifications available for the resistor pack?

Thanks again!
