Heat and defrost

Heat and defrost
I have a 2008 F-150. My legs are getting cold while driving. When I turn the control from floor/defrost to floor I still get hot air from the defrost. I also notice a random clicking noise coming from roughly behind the left dash vent. I don't know if the two are related or not. Any suggestions to repair this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This could be a stuck hVAC diverter that isn't fully closing to the next position. I haven't noticed if mine stays on when I switch but mine is the automatic climate control system, so I can look at it later. As far as the click you hear, I get this as well.. I imagine it is the thermostat triggering and shutting off the radiator so you don't continue to get blasted with hot air. I could be wrong, though.... But I have this on all 3 of my vehicles, two of which aren't Fords.

x2, very common with the blend door actuator (and sounds exactly like what yours is doing).
I did have another issue though, the floor would still get cold even though my blend door was working. If you find the blend door is broken and after you fix it you still find cold feet, I removed the blower motor, siliconed around it, put it back in and have been fine since. More the passenger side though (wife was complaining). Different issue though.

This is actually pretty accurate. To get a clean, clear working view you'll need to pull most of the dash off. The good news is our dashes look more of a pain then they are... Your upper seal is held mostly by snap-on clips that can be popped free with a cloth-covered flathead and then you've got a few screws to work with... I've been in and out in under 45 minutes before to get to my stereo for a PAC converter.

If you can adjust the heat of the air, then the blend door and actuator are working. The vent selector door has foam on it that falls off and jambs that door though. There is a thread or two that describe how to get that foam out, without taking the dash apart. I'll try to find it so that you can see if it applies to your situation.
