I have one of those days intermittent problems. 2007 mark Lt same as the f150 with no auto 4wd.

Upon start up the 4x4 hi and 4x4 low light comes on and flashes 3 times and just keeps repeating. The 4wd system than becomes unresponsive. If I restart the truck it sometimes goes away and works properly.

I'm thinking its a communication issue opposed to a mechanical failure.

Look at your IWE solenoid mounted on the firewall behind your battery...see if it has a rain guard around it...if not you have the old style and there’s a good chance it needs to be replaced...water gets into it and causes problems. $60

Did you find the fix for this? or a common fix? Mine recently just starting doing this... no symptoms at all.

I'll be checking the fuses, transfer case motor (for faulty wire), speed sensors,and maybe solenoid (updated version) under the passenger hood? The lights were flashing before and after i changed my transfer case fluid.
