Default Has anyone replaced their own cam phasers??

Well I'm considering doing this next summer. I know there is a couple special tools that are required. What's the hardest part of this procedure. I think the hardest part would be removing the valve and timing chain covers. I'm going to do my research on this and I have a chiltons repair manual. Thanks.

I wonder if you can rent the special tools from a dealership? If you have to spend a couple hundred on tools and then the cost of parts it would only be a few more hundred to have it done.

Buying the tools, and doing it yourself almost always comes out cheaper because in the end you still have the tools that you can use again if ever needed.

Just like doing my lift kit myself. I bought about $100 dollars in jackstands and tools and completed it myself instead of paying someone $500 to do it for me. Now I still have the jack stands and the other tools and I use them almost all the time.

I already have all the necessary tools as far as wrenches and stuff. But you have to have a few tools made just for a couple of fords engines. I know you have to have one that holds the cam gear to the head to keep it from moving.
