So wat if someone tried to splice the thing that dims the mirror. So u can have it up high and not have the cords there? Just wondering if that was a simple way to do it or if it even worked. Thanks

the harness that is attached to the rear view mirror is where I'm thinking of wiring mine. I used the same harness on my Acura TL..turns on and off with the vehicle. I hate leaving it in the window when the truck is in the sun though. I've already got the buttons blistering and bubbling from sun exposure! Passport Escort 9500i

sweet check out this mount! it was on the top of the page when i refreshed it! I'm def gonna try and find one for less than $79 bucks! That's a rip off..good idea though..

also keep in mind you can hardwire these radar detectors with a 4 pin telephone cord. I used one in my Acura. Just test the wires and see which one needs to be ground and which one power. Do this with a voltage tester and then test the harness where the dimming rear view mirror plugs in and then just attach the wires in the harness. I stripped back enough of the wire so that i could stick it in the harness and then plug the harness back in. This held the wires in place. No need to spend $20 on a hardwire kit unless you buy the one from Escort that has the mute button and sensor on it. I actually liked that kit because it had a flashing light when the detector went off. In case you can't hear the beeping from your music..it lets you know visually that there is a radar alert.

Ditto ^^ I have that cable, I just tucked the wires into the gap between the windshield and the ceiling. Ran the ground to a bolt just above the pedals and the 12V from fuse #1 with an add-a-fuse. Turns on with the truck, and I didn't tap into the airbag circuit.

I try to avoid messing with anything to do with the airbags... maybe something to do with having a calibrated explosive aimed at my face

well what i did is i actually bought a cig splitter, and cut one of those off, connected it to the wire to the radar wire, taped it together. It sits up by the map lights and a power and ground go down the side wall thing, and is hooked up to a switch

I hardwired mine into the Overhead map lights. Just find the constant power and the ground, it even turns off after a while just like if you were to leave one of the lights on.

Where are the radars in the pictures hanging from the rearview mirror getting power from?

from the plug that plugs in to the rear view mirror. I believe there is power and ground there. I haven't tested mine yet but I'm sure it's switched too. So it will come on with the truck and go off with the truck.

How exactly do you get power from the mirror wire. I want to hardwire my radar there but I'm not sure how to do it? Can someone please explain this to me?
