Default Hardwiring A Radar Detector

Has anyone hardwired a radar detector. I was wondering where you connected the radar wire and where you mounted your radar. I don't want mine to stick out like a sore thumb. Just wondering if/how others have done it. Any advice is welcome.

i did, i wired it into my power and ground for my radio, ran it under neath the dash tray, and mounted it to the windshield right above the wiper.

comes on when the truck is on, and is pretty much out of sight

This is how i mounted mine... didn't wanna splice the wire that plugs into a cigarette lighter. I had a cigarette lighter extender thing, just spliced that, grounded it, and hooked it up to a switch next to my shifter... wire goes above headliner

Reason why i put it up there was because it was a btch to reach all the way to like the bottom of the windshield to turn it from city to highway... now its a snap

The red wire behind your dash that is part of your radio harness has plenty of juice for a radar detector. It turns on when the key has power. That is what I did for mine. But I got a directwire kit so I just had to tap into it. I mounted the directwire controller on my center console on the far corner of it to the top and left of the shifter. Works great. My detector is mounted below my rearview mirror. It picks up from behind MUCH better from up there.

I had it mounted here

But moved it to here (ignore the cord, I was just testing the location before I ran the wire)

I have a 2wd that has wiring for the 4wd switch attached to the back of a stupid looking coinholder on the dash. I bet there's a power wire in there.
