Got a 96 cobra drop top it's 4.6 32v Dohc thing has never missed a beat best smoothest running engine I've had. Then again the engine was hand built by SVT lol. Yeah I'm sure the new 5.0 have issues and yes I want to avoid payments I hate payments. But 3k to do the chains ect seems steep. I figured 2k Rock auto has the parts for around 500$ Coyles set up.

Summers what are the main issues with the new 5.0L ??? I was under the impression that it had little to no issues....was thinking about buying one in the future. Spoke with a local mechanic and said he's never had to work on one (other than standard maintenance). I'm interested to see if the 5.0L will have common problems such as the 5.4L (plugs,IWE system, manifolds, pinion seal, cam phasers, vcts, etc.). Was hoping that they would get most of this sorted out with the new platform.

Can these engines as far as the timing components be fixed I've read some people replace the parts but the noise and problems return fast. And again why dint inhalers check engine light or my knock sensors picking up on the noise. Ect. I've ran my sct hand scanner I'm not picking up any codes at all.

To the OP. I just did a search and came up with an idea. Might sound stupid but pull your belt off the engine and spin all your pullies. Could be something as simple as a bearing going out on a pulley. Hence when your under a heavy load or stomping the pedal could put extra stress on the pullies .
Notastockdohc: I have 220,000 miles on my engine and have had the cam sprocket diesel sound for over 100,000 miles. I'm just now getting around to tackle the sprockets. I did my timing chains and tensioners about 30,000 miles ago but going to replace the chains, tensioners, and sprockets this December when I have some down time .I have never had a check engine light appear referring to any of the timing or phasers
