So do you call them and say "I'd like to get the 87 performance tune"?

So basicly buying the Gryphon, how it comes, is like buying the Edge Evo, but with the ability to upgrade tunes??

Yep.

It's an Evo, with PHP's firmware. Which allows it to connect to PHP's server to download yer custom tuning when it's ready.

You need to fill out the tuning order form on their website. You will need to use yer device to pull yer 7-character HEX strategy code - without it they can't write the tunes.

Shoot - $30 is less than a case o' brewskies 'round here

You're buying it directly from them.. When you connect it to the truck all the information you need will come up.. I used their forum to post my information... Forum.gopowerhungryperformance.com.... Something like that

That write your tune... Plug the tuner into your laptop and download it

You'll need to download Pegasus at some point..I've run my 87 perf tune for 5 years..been great and reliable..Got a 91 perf and haven't been real happy with it..the 87 seems to be an all around better tune..Recently I've gone the SCT route, but still use my Gryphon as a gauge cluster.

If all the trucks were stock it would be easy enough to do and they would still make money. But, everyone has done different things to their trucks that they need to take into account for the tune.

That's exactly what I will be doing with my edge once I tune with my new SCT.. Just a pricey gauge cluster. I'm glad to see the 2 devices aren't conflicting with each other since this was my only fear. I've previously read a lot of diesel guys use this exact combo with great results, but I haven't heard of any F-150 guys doing it except you.
Are there any tips or tricks you can recommend for running both tuners? I'm all ears.

I ran mine with the SCT and used the Gyphon as a gauge cluster for a bit and had no issues. I went all Gryphon when I got my custom tunes from PHP. My truck seems to run a lil bit better with the PHP tunes. I'm keeping my SCT for when I finally get me a Whipple for the truck but it's in a box for now.

I know this is extremely subjective but are these php towing tunes really that big of a step up from the edge towing tune? I run 89 (i know you can run 87 but with 89 i see enough of an uptick in mileage (almost 1 mpg) that it's worth it for an extra $3 per fill up) with the edge canned towing tune and i'm really happy. I only really wanted to firm up shift points and re-calibrate the speedo due to tire size changes.

I love power but i'm more concerned about longevity and reliability.

on a side note, I think my new iron cross bumper is restricting the air flow on the trans cooler because i saw some higher temps this weekend towing... what do you guys think about either adding 2 small fans to the stock cooler, getting a bigger cooler, or running an extra cooler laying horizontally with a fan (saw one especial posted last week that would work perfect but kind of pricey)

Exactly^^ custom is all about tailoring your tune, just like you would with a suit that only you will wear. That's why it's better, its not made to make everybody in the market happy, just you.

Canned tunes are nice, but if you do go custom, try to get the tune to account for the mods you intend to run.. Like LT headers, high flow cats, and be specific about any CAI you think you might want to run.. I've got a Volant CAI and bill nailed the tune perfectly.. Checked with my wideband at cruise, and WOT.... I wish I could have had him tune me for my bigger mods, but he doesn't like to tune blowers and turbos remotely. I don't blame him either. It's risky. Plus, fusion on the new CTS and CS platforms is a giant disaster for custom tuning.
