Gryphon Programmer

Waking the dead hear, but just ordered mine. Wanted to know from those who have a Gryphon:
What setting do you think is best for all around fun to drive?
What setting have you found to be the best for MPG?
I didnt get any custom tunes, and I only have exhaust on my truck.

I do have all custom tunes because of my exhaust, cai, alltitude and 35s, I run the custom 87 towing tune in town and the 91 performance tune on highway, I love the towing time because of the power behind it!!! I ran the canned 87 tow tune before I got the custom tunes at the advise of php because I already had cai and they said it would be best. Loved it then, love it better now because it takes care of the running rich problem.

Custom gryphon CS here:
I'm a big fan of my 89 tow tune. My 93 performance tune is great on low load highway hauls, and my 89 performance tune was kind of a waste to even bother getting, I never run it.
I run 93 on my 89 tow tune since I want to be ready to swap in my whipple at a moments notice that will require 93. It helped with milage slightly.
Tow tune by far is the best all around tune. Lots of low end grunt, and good low rpm power when cruising on the highway. I never shift out of OD when hauling or towing generally. I always approach hills with a bit of extra speed, and then cruise up the rest of the way..
I got hi flow cats, SI/DO magnaflow, and a Volant CAI with the tow hook scoop for performance mods that are tuned..... I'm very happy with the results.

Well i get my gryphon tomorrow. I guess no need for custom tunes since my truck is stock, minus high flow cats and magnaflow SI/SO. Really excited to run the canned 87 tow tune since I have heard good things about it.
Any reason to get custom tune with my current set up?
Canned tune 91 performance any good?

Any reason? You mean, besides the night & day improvement over the canned tuning? Naw ..... Folks typically see better gains on the custom 87 perf tuning over the canned 91-93... it's that good.
The canned perf tune (L3) has more top-end but a weaker bottom end, relative to the canned L2 tune. Something else that custom will 'fix'.
Realistically - 99% of any gains are going to come from the tuning - so it does not matter if the truck is stock - those other mods do basically nothing but lighten yer wallet. No gains worth their cost. And - @ $60 a tune it's a steal relative to what some other custom shops are charging for their calibrations.
BTW - if you buy the thing direct from PHP in the first place (highly recommended) the tunes are only $30. That's reason enough to go that route - besides supporting this small Mom & Pop tuning vendor - rather than faceless folks like Edge or Autoanything that just push product and offer / care for little else.
good luck

Either way once you add the programmer the canned tunes Level 2 Tow is pretty stout.. You would never go back to running stock again.. Once you go custom you won't want to run the canned tunes anymore... My 87 performance has a little more kick to it than the canned Tow... Figured I didn't need another tune after that...
