If you have read my other post about the 4WD system you will know it's not that. I'm pretty sure it's my AC compressor.

Update on the grinding noise it is still there after I replaced my air conditioner compressor I'm thinking something in the transmission? It usually only happens when I'm going on the interstate hope of an on ramp in the engine is bogged down in 3rd gear.

I read your post about the iwe's, and you said you checked the vacuum lines. Did you test the check valves or the vacuum resevoir? If not, test those before you rule out the 4wd system.
Another thought, have you checked the heat sheilds? Those things are thin metal and can cause a similar noise. Sometimes the ones around the cat's come loose and rattle. Sometimes the ones above the exhaust can come loose and touch stuff (like a driveshaft).

I was just about to post this. My friend (Chevy...eww) had a grinding noise on take off and thought it was the tranny but it was the heat shield. You could only hear on take off because of the exhaust. Lol

It's not on take off though it's when the transmission is in 2nd gear going to 3rd. Or when it's about to downshift really wierd. I can jump on it from a dead stop and it won't do it. Just going up hills when I press the gas a little bit more or going down the road and do the same.

so i really do think now it is my passenger side IWE. whenever i put the pedal to the floor it sounds like a vacuum problem going to that side. Not a big deal right now but i guess in the future it is something to look into.

I have a thread above yours that's the same I believe but mine grinds for about 5 seconds and goes away when I brake but the last time it happened I put it in neutral and back to D and it went away. Mine happens when I let off the gas at about 45-55 and I'm coasting
