Definatley file with the police, you never know, they could have locked up a drunk that night with fresh damage on his car but they couldnt find what he hit.

Good luck man

That sucks. The shop will have to take off your bed, cut the panel off and reweld.

I was at a buddy's house one weekend and I watched a girl back her car into the side of my truck. I got her insurance info, and that next monday I went to my insurance agent. My insurance went after their insurance, so I didn't even have to pay the deductible. And I got a rental while mine was in the shop. Although it was a stupid- Cobalt... I now understand why GM went Ch-11. I don't understand why/how anybody can stand driving that car!

I agree that you should get a police report. However... if you go through insurance, Does it show up that your vehicle was in an accident? I had a guy run into me before and we by-passed insurance. When I sold the dakota, it didn't show any accidents on the reports.

Have the police look at the site. Who knows, the idiot might cave and confess if the police ask him a few questions. Worth a try. I had a similar experience and it sucks to discover the damage.

Agreed you should file a police report - odds are even your own insurance will want/require it. And point out to them any evidence or even suspicions you may have - you never know.

No matter how it happens getting your truck damaged is a real bummer. I got rear ended about a month ago but fortnaely he had insurance and they covered the repair and a rental. Hope your situation works out for the best!

Had the same thing happen to me awhile ago. Drove down to Florida from Illinois for college. The first night in Florida I went to eat at a pizza place in a small downtown area, after I came out from the restaurant I noticed the left side corner of my bed smashed in. Hit and run. $800 fix after by-passing insurance and police report. Great way to start off the semester with my budget blown.

Nash... everybody... I don't know what requirements there are to report accident repairs, BUT... I just sold our '96 Explorer which had TWO insurance paid body repairs in the past 5 years. Both were done by the shop recommended by the insurance company, and NEITHER repair was on the carfax report. I was up front with the guy who bought the car, as I don't like the idea of lying to anybody. It was the same fender and door replacement on the left front both times.

Does anybody know what requirements there are to report repairs? (frame, flood, major damage??) How or when do the CARFAX type agencies collect their information? It makes me wonder...since the truck I recently bought had a "clean" CARFAX report.
