first off i hope by bumper trailer you dont mean hooking up a trailer to you bumper. there a reason why when you ask for a trailer pkg, they put on a reese hitch. especially when your hauling horses. thats a lot of weight for a bumper.

next you guys are interchanging goose neck and 5th wheel. two totally different things. gooseneck trailers hook to a ball in the bed of the truck. just as if it was too attach to the rear of the truck, except that the tongue is in the shape of a goose neck to go over the tailgate. but it still hooks to a ball.

5th wheel is like what tractor trailers use. the receiver is on the truck instead of the trailer .

Go with a turn over ball gooseneck hitch. Thats all I will ever use anymore. You just pull a handle from between your rear tire and the wheel well. Reach in lift the ball out,turn it over drop it back in then you have your bed back to haul anything you want. The gooseneck will pull alot easier meaning less trailer bounce and less trailer sway. They are just a lot more of a pleasure to tow. Your horses will thank you! Please Do not buy a 5th wheel hitch if you need to use your bed for anything else. Those things are a real PITA to take out, they are heavy and just take up to much space. This coming from someone who has hauled horses all over the country.

In the horse trailer world, they separate trailers into two main types - "bumperpull" (meaning the hitch off the back of the truck) or "Gooseneck" (the hitch in the bed of the truck). So trust me, I am not attaching to my actual bumper.
