Default A good deal? '04 F-150

Hello everyone,

I have never previously owned a Ford before, let alone an F-150 but I came across an '04 F-150 SuperCrew and I am very interested.

The driver side taillight is cracked, which isn't a big deal and the driver seat is torn a little bit. Other than that, it doesn't appear to have any cosmetic problems.

Would this be a good deal? I don't know too much about F-150's so any advice you guys have would be much appreciated. Overall, I do like the truck (this would be my first truck too).

What usually causes the problem & how would I know if it has it?

I won't be doing any towing with the truck either. I have a little bit of a lead foot but I will be mudding with it a little bit, but not too hard, lol.

Thank you. The truck is located about 2 hours away so if it had any problems, I'd be pretty bummed, but it's better than dropping $8,000 and finding out it has all sorts of problems -- especially the problem you described.

Its a good price. Just look carefully for rust/rot. look at the shock mounts and leaf spring perches/shackles. Those usually rust out first. then check the bottom of the cab body for rust bubbles. Once it starts, It don't stop lol. Obviously everything those guys^^ said as well make sure the engine is running smooth and there is no phaser noise, and definitely MAKE them change the plugs before you agree to a deal... If all that checks out all you'd need is a set of seat covers and it'd be a good buy IMO...

And I don't believe it is a 4x4, so i gotta ask the question... Are you sure you don't want 4wd??? Especially in Ohio? I live in the northeast and have had my experiences in snow with 2wd, and it sucks compared to when I got my first 4wd ranger a few years back. I will never go back to a 2wd ever again... Just something to think about...

Not a seat cover kind of guy by any means but it's on the driver side so I may just deal with it or see what I can do to repair it. On the dealerships website it says it's a "Lariat" but says nothing about it being a 2 or 4x4. A few buddies of mine have 4x4 trucks and they said they still slide everywhere unless they have sand bags in the bed of the truck. Ohio winters are different every year, but this winter is predicted to be a bad one. Thanks a lot for the advice man -- much appreciated.

I don't think it's a lariat, the badge would say lariat instead of xlt, unless someone took the lariat badges off but why would they do that? lol... I never had to keep weight in the bed when in snow but having good tires helps a lot. I looked at the craigslist post again, Its not 4wd, there is no selector switch on the dash, or shifter on the floor... If you're ok with that, its definitely a good buy...
