gonna clean my throttle body. tips?
i used the search function, but there are waaaay too many random threads that pop up. sooooooo ill just ask directly.
ive got 92,000 and i figured its time to give the throttle body a good detailing. several questions have come to mind
1)should i remove the entire throttle body and deep clean it? or is that really necessary? if i do, do i need to replace any gaskets?
2) if i just keep it on, what can i use to clean it well and prevent stuff from falling through the TB?
any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated

Never performed it on the F150. But on my other cars I used carb cleaner, and left the TB on.
I first sprayed it with the TB closed, and cleaned around. Then I manually opened the TB and spray on the MicroFiber cloth and wiped clean. Most the build up is going to be around where the butterfly is.

Leave it on... I do similar to what SHale mentioned. I scrub around with seafoam and with an old toothbrush then wipe clean then repeat inside the best i can with throttle open... Then turn the truck on and run 1/2 can seafoam thru the vacuum line. Turn off for 15 mins then drive it fairly hard for a while... Change the oil fairly soon after also...

And don't be suprised if the engine stumbles when you first try and turn it over...especially when using a carb cleaner. Just let it sit a little longer and try again. Just means a little to much got in there.

DO NOT USE CARB CLEANER!! Our throttle bodys have a protective coating that require throttle body cleaner. And if your is anything like mine was most the dirt and stuff will be on on the bottom of it. I took mine off and cleaned it with a rag. There's enough slack in the wires going to the tps and throtle acuater that you can just turn it upside down and clean it. And I reused the gasket like thing and it worked out good

Most definitely no Carb cleaner. That was tough enough on carbs.
TB cleaner only.
I would not risk having stuff fall into my intake because I didn't take the time to remove my tb.
Notice I said my intake. I am not telling someone else what to do.

lol well i like the thought of taking it off because i feel i can clean it better from underneath as well. with my k&n intake and living on a dirt road, i feel it really needs to be deep cleaned just in case some oil and dirt got passed the filter
