Default Go powerstroke or stay with 150?

I love my 05 f150 to death, but I really want a diesel. I tow a 27 foot travel trailer that weighs about 7200 lbs. my truck can tow it but I don't want to beat the s*** out of it ya know. It has 140,000 miles at the moment, with the infamous camphaser tick. Just put a rebuilt tranny in it. I just don't want the motor to take a dump on me and then be stuck with a bill for a new motor when I can sell it right now and get its full potential cause every thing works perfect right now.. So basically, I want a diesel, but love my 150... Help

If ya get a diesel I vote for 6.4 but make sure you delete it asap. And try to get late 08 or newer

As much as I'd love to have the 6.4, I simply cant afford it so ive had my eyes on an 06 or 07 6.0. I've had two 7.3l and loved them. I'm thinking I can get rid of my f150 for around 15k and then pick up a diesel with around 100k for maybe 17-19k

Well unless you delete egr, do head studs and put after market turbos I would stay clear of 6.0 and if ya could do without some fancy stuff you can get nice 6.4 XL with less that 100k for $18k range. Mine was modified well when I traded it and got $19k on trade

06 to 07 6.0s were pretty good. I would defintly make the trade! I don't know why everyone likes the 6.4s so much. They look good but those are some junkey motors!

If ya go with a 6.0. Stick with an 07.

Couple of things to check. THE OASIS. See what has been done under warranty. That'll give you a good idea on how it may have been driven prior.
A few things to look for is the HPOP and EGR cooler failures. Check for coolant being blown out from the coolant tank. That may be a sign of head gasket failure. Not as a big concern on the 07 but it still is prone to failure.

Be sure to change oil and fuel filters as required only with MOTORCRAFT or RACOR filters.

If your gonna tune it hunt down spartan diesel and be sure to be prepared to pay big bucks if your not safe. ARP head studs is almost a must. Gauges to monitor cylinder temp and exhaust gases (pyrometer) will be a must too. Running exhaust temps in excess of 1250 degrees for a long period of time will cause serious issues. Again, if your gonna tune it.

Boost gauge is already in stock form and is accurate.

The 6.0 is a great motor if you understand it. The torqeshift is a great transmission. But 6.4 will pull a lot more power.

Junky? I dont usually argue over net but the only 6.4 I have seen with problems is ones that have dpf and egr on til 150k. my 6.4 took 588HP of racing at track and other places with boosted launches and pulled 10k every weekend and never once hesitated so unless you are talking about non deleted 6.4 then if I were you( I think you have said your a mechanic of some sort) I would talk to guys with deleted 6.4s. Powerstrokehelp and diesel power mag all agree they are awesome reliable engines deleted

I switched from a 99 7.3L to a F150 and not looking back since. I do miss my diesel, but that's because of the size. I went from 3 years of raising cane, blowing smoke, and taking up two parking spots to an F150. If you do switch, I'd stick with a 7.3L, 04 or 07 6.0, 6.4, or 6.7. I've seen nothing but amazement out of the 6.7. They're fast, pull good, and get decent mileage. Did I mention they're fast? :P

A Spartan tuned 6.4 will take a fat dump on any other diesel ford has ever built. $1200 for up to 365hp ya I'll take that oh wait there's one in my driveway hehehehe!

All diesels have big issues its just a problem with emissions. And it seems like even old cummins and 7.3s are hit or miss anymore because a lot of abuse from previous owners.

If you dont mine me asking whats your budget? Some people on here might be able to find you something.
