Default GM stereo swap?

Today I went to parts u pick and got a factory radio out of a Silverado for $9.99. Would it be possible to put it in an F150? I've got a plan for bolting it up and cutting the bezel. My question is, how would you go about wiring the radio to work? I cut out the harnesses from the Chevy and also cut out the harnesses from a totaled F150.

Would I just take my factory harness and splice the similar wires together? (Power to power, volume to volume, etc.)

If the wire count is equal, you'd just have to trace and match the wires for the "new" GM radio. If there are more/less wires between the two, it'll be a little harder to go about getting it to work properly. I suggesst getting a wiring diagram for both vehicles and comparing them, then write down what you need to splice together. Fairly straight forward. The real B**** will be making it look decent going into your console. Lol.

Not sure here, just thinking out loud but doesn't GM put those theft lock things on their radios where the VIN has to unlock them? If so wouldn't that present an issue? But I'm not sure if any of its true on any specific radios

They do, but there are ways to unlock them. I've been looking it up. I think there's a hotline to call during the process..

I think if I order a Metra 70-5520 and use it I can wire that harness to the harnesses I cut out of the donor Chevy. Basically treating it like an aftermarket radio. Am I mistaken?

That is where I would start. I'd find a wiring diagram for your GM headunit there and see how well it matches up to a diagram to your Ford. Your best bet would probably be to pull the info on a harness that works with that particular GM brand.
