Default Gear swap question

Ok need some advice. I am dropping of my truck tuesday for a 4.56 gear swap.

After going to ford I found out I had a open diff. Thought it was a limited slip. Question is should I buy one and what brand ,the factory ford one is $325.00. Oh its a 8.8 axel for more info.

Definitely worth it to get a limited slip if you are ever off the pavement. I would have chosen the Detroit Tru-trac LS since it is not clutch driven and will never wear out and frankly many claim it performs close to that of a true locker when in real slick stuff. Either way, I think you will be very happy.

So I dropped the truck off this morning and the auburn ls didn't show up but they had a eaton posi and a Detroit Tru-Trac . They talked me in to the Eaton Posi because apparently the Tru-Trac wears out the housing where the helical gears are at so I went with old reliable.

Any updates on performance, how it turned out, are you happy with results, etc?

It turned out great all the power is back no more constant shifting out of overdrive on the freeway. They ended up putting a eaton posi in instead of the auburn ls because it didn't come in. I wish I ordered the tru trac instead. But the posi chirps the tires with very little effort. I have 2,000 miles on them now changed the fluid out and all looks good. Four wheel parts did a nice job and all for 1,945 including 3 year 36,000 extreme plus warranty and the posi in the rear.
