Gear ratio?

Gear ratio?
I have a 04 F-150 on 35" with 373 gears and my truck always feels like its lugging. RPM's stay between 1100 and 1900. At 65mph they are at about 1600. What size gears should I go with? I do alot of city and highway driving. Plus I have my 35"s on 20' wheels so they are pretty heavy. Also on the highway at 75 or 80 what should my rpm's be at? Any help would be appreciated. And will changing my gears help out on fuel milage?

im not sure about the gears really, i have a 6inch lift and 35s on 18 inch moto metals and my truck was feeling the same as yours, i was also considering re-gearing. but i just got a edge programmer and that slug feeling has dissapeared, especially off the line. gas mileage has gone up to about 13 in town from around 10 and i was getting around 15 on a small interstate trip last night. just though i would throw that in there for you to consider. i have read some mixed comments on gearing as well, some say its a big diffrence some say its not.

Look at 4.10s. you could consider 3.90s but I really think 4.10s are the best for 35s on the road. 4.56s if you go offroad a lot

The difference between a 3.73 and 4.10 is relatively small. And 4.56's would be great for heavy towing, and off-roading, but for all-around use, and a little more get-up-and-go, with 35's I'd go with 4.30's
As far as rpms, my supercab with 5.4 and 3.55 gears ran 2000 at 75MPH with the stock 235's. Now with the 285's, its around 18-1900. In any event, I'd keep it under 22-2300 at 75MPH. The 4.30's would be about perfect
lower gears with bigger tires is a catch 22 in the city. The decrease in engine strain in stop-n-go traffic will be offset by higher rpms. But on the highway, you will definitely see an increase in MPG's, and less transmission wear because it won't be going between 3rd and overdrive ever time you get to a small incline.

Is it 4x4 also, I am pretty sure that you're either stuck between 4.10s or 4.56s. I don't think they make any others for the front differential. With the 4.56s you will better gas mielage in city driving but will lose some on the highway. I'm getting 4.56s next month with 35's but I don't do much highway driving. Is it worth the cost to go to 4.10s???

im gona have the same problem whrn i goto 35s cuz i have 3.55s now. I am gona go with 4.30s prbly or 4.56s. Its hard to belive that so many lifted trucks are driving arnd like that, begging for a re-ear, and dealerships sell them that way? wtf! i guess some ppl just want the look.
