Gas Mileage - I'M PISSED!!!!

Good. It has been so cold by us that mpg has taken a hit since the engine can't fully warm. Today my mpg jumped up 2 mpg because it was in the 20s. That should help as well, although I agree that the cel is indicative of an issue.

Winter blend gas, ethanol and letting the truck warm up dont leave much for good gas mileage in the winter.
Because of this my mpg's in the winter are anywhere from 10-11. (around town and short trips)
I didnt get 16 mpg this past weekend on a nice 86 mile road trip. Must have been a tail wind.
This is on 87 octane. No need to spend the extra 10 cents per gallon for no added benefit of 89 octane.

Update= the problem has been found and fixed. The previous owner tapped the brake light on the topper into the brake light wire in the electrical connector housing along the frame rail directly below the drivers seat. He must have had a test light looking for power when he did it because two wires near the harness connector looked as if they had been peireced. The wires corroded at the location where they were peireced and broke. I found the mating wire on the opposite side of the connector and spliced them together using solder and shrink wrap. Cleared the code and it is now running and shifting WAY better! The enclosure design the harness connectors are in is a freaking joke! I am a design engineer and can tell you that an intern could have come up with a better design. The same goes for the dip$#!+ that decided to mount the cast aluminum fuel pump driver module to the steel chassis. Don't they teach the engineers now days about dissimilar metals and the electron negativity chart these days!!!!

If you are still having low mpg or have a code pop, I highly recommend getting a BT code reader. I got the BAFX one from Amazon for $20.
You can buy the torque app and run "test results" this will give you all the info to make most diagnosis.
