gas mileage
Im new to this forum and im looking at getting a 04-09 f150 with the 5.4 in it. I have. 93 with the 5.0 and it just don't get good gas mileage. I talked to some guy that said he got low to mid 20mpg with a computer chip, exhaust and intake with the 5.4. Has any one here done that and getting the same results? I pull trailers ranging from 2000lbs to 5000lbs and I put 35000mi on my truck a year so gas mileage is important to me.

I have a 2006 FX4 5.4 with a SCT Tuner and JLT CIA. My truck will not get close to that. 14 mpg to 16 mpg is good as it gets. But, if you are getting a 2wd then that is a good chance. Good Luck

No. Look for 14-16mpg. Maybe up to 18 on the hwy.

My dad's truck (2007 XLT, 2wd 5.4L) gets 21-22 highway on a constant basis. (his pencil calculations).
On a 2wd truck it's possible. 4WD? Forget it.

My father's 2005 4.2 2wd manual can get around 22 or 23 mpg during the summer, I got 18 highway during the summer with my 4x4 5.4. Try using synthetic oil with the lucas oil upper cylinder additive in the gas. But still it's a truck, don't expect too much I average around 14 or 15 mpg

Yah I thought it sounded a little too good to be true. I played around with timing spark plugs and intakes and gained 5mpg with my 5.0 but I can't get better than 15.2 ever.

For what it's worth;
My truck is a '06 4x4 SCAB with the 4.6 V8. Using pencil calculations the mileage I've seen was about 18 mpg in the summer and about 15 mpg in winter. I'm not an aggresive driver (but I'm not that idiot doing 55 in the left lane either), and I seldom see an interstate (rural area). Where I live the terrain is about half flat and half rolling hills.
I recently installed a Gryphon tuner and have the canned 87 tow program loaded. Tires are new all terrain type, alligned and balanced (265-70/17). Correct tire size, differential ratio, etc are loaded into tuner. This weekend I made a 600+ mile trip and my average mpg was 15.75 (pencil calculations). The tuner has an "average mpg" display feature which was showing "20.6 mpg" when I rolled into my driveway yesterday at the end of the trip. Something fishy there...
Based on that I would say the mpg improvement claims made by sellers of tuners are extremely optimistic. Like every other "magic" part/additive/oil sold!
I DO enjoy the better acceleration and shifting that the tuner provides. The tuner did not hurt mpg, and may be making a very small improvement.
If you are seriosly only looking for mpg improvement, you will not likely get it though buying parts/stuff. Lighten up your foot and put your money in the gas tank.

13-16, mostly highway is what my stock '06 4x4 with a 5.4 gets. I figure it out myself since my truck doesnt have the digital mpg calculator.
The window sticker rating is 14 city, 18 highway.
Putting a tonneau cover on increased the gas mileage by 1 mpg.

I get about 16 mpg. Of course I was hoping for better, but bottom line I did not buy a truck for it's fuel milage.
I like the safety of a larger vehicle and the security of 4X4.
This is a small price to pay. I would think that a newer truck even with a 5.4 would get better milage than your 93
Good luck with your search
