FX4 owners: cluster question

Compass looks like a pretty easy hook up if you get the module, just power, ground, and two wires to the cluster; temp is only two.
I think you may be okay with the door ajar and lights, diagram looks like those leads are directly wired to the door latches regardless of trim.
Good luck.

As to the temp, I went and bought a brand new temp sensor from Ford and plugged it into the wiring (front of radiator), as my STX had that wiring, but it had a "blank" plugged into the harness. I still did not get any temp reading on the XLT cluster; just the "T" and two "--" where the reading should have been. Perhaps there is some additional wiring behind the dash that has to connect to one of the two upper cluster harness connectors. I have not traced this yet.
The other puzzlement is that with a standard STX cluster, the interior lights come on whenever I open the door, and the "door ajar" appears in the display. With the XLT cluster, these two items did not work. Others have shared the same results with this same cluster swap. I did not care at the time, as gaining a tach was more important to me at the time.
Now it will be interesting though to see if the FX4 cluster gives me the interior lights and door ajar whenever the door is opened, as they do when the cluster is in the FX4.
Perhaps the XLT's did not get the "door ajar" display in their trucks?

Hey Bucko, waiting to hear your results... I've been wondering also if an FX2 cluster would work too (in an STX 4x4). I know some older truck consoles have the 4x4 and other back-lighted items in the clusters... You and I have the same basic truck, so I'm very interested in what you discover.

i was too wondering about the 4x4 thing, do you have to have the cluster from a 4x4 truck or will either work? mine came out of a 4x4 truck so i didnt have the issue....

EBay. A used parts dealer (A.K.A. junkyard/salvage yard) was selling it. They posted it with a "generic" cluster picture, along with several other 2004 to 2008 Ford F150 clusters. I reconized the part number (FX clusters end with Ford part number "CN") and bought it.
It appears that all 2004 to 2008 F150 clusters have the same part number, but each model has a unique two letter number depending on model.
The cluster part number is:
5L34-10849-"xx" where "xx" is a unique two letter code pertaining to the model (XL, XLT, STX, FX, and King Ranch).
XL models with the V8 ends with "AC" (in place of the "xx")
XLT models also use "AC"
STX models use "GN"
FX2/FX4 models use "CN"
Lariat models use "EH" and "EM"
Don't know what the King Ranch two letter code is
AC clusters have a black backround, with a tach.
GN clusters have a black backround, and no tach.
CN clusters have a silver.black backround, and a tach.
EH and EM clusters have white guages, and a tach.
It pays to have factory documentation (I.E. factory repair manuals).
I will post my findings of adding the FX cluster in my STX as soon as it arrives and I have it installed.
