Default FX2 gauge cluster in XL

I just picked up a cheap FX2 cluster for my 08 XL. I know it has a outside thermomoter. does it have a compass as well?

The next question would be if your 08 XL will support the compass; there is usually an "outside" magnetic sensor of sorts, which will require you to calibrate north once the cluster is installed. This usually involves driving in a circle (finding a parking lot) to perform this function.

I own an SXT and wanted to install a rear view mirrior with the built in compass (why these are not offered as standard equipment...I digress), but my concern is how hard it will be to install the magnetic sensor these compasses usually require. More homework to do on my part.

will that cluster just bolt into and hook up with your XL wiring? I want to do this with my XLT.

Yes, there are 8 screws and two wire harnesses. two about 20 min. in light rain (I was excited) I found it on ebay for $50.00 with shipping. The two draw backs I have encountered are odometer and door light. Odometer, must be reset by ford. and I am told it cost $75.00. I got lucky and found one within two hundred miles difference so I did not worry about the descrepency. Second is the dome light does not work when door is open and no door chime when key is in ingnition but turned off, with door open (some people like this) I think the light and chime might be a programming issue and I plan on taking the truck to Ford to activate the Cruise controll after I get a set of switches installed and I will have them look at it. I will be glad to report back after I am done. The light does not bother me since the dome light switch is easy to reach. I don't miss the chime at all.

Thanks for saving me some research...one last question; is it a simple matter of running just a simple 12v and ground lead to the XLT type rear view mirror to make this work? I doubt my SXT has a pre-wired harness sitting at the center of it's roof headliner.

I suppose a trip to my local junk yard will get me lucky in finding one of these, plus I can just grab as much of the wire harness it (rear view mirror/compass) uses from the donor truck.
