My CEL is on, and stays on continuiously. Which I've found out by doing a little research means that it has something to do with emissions. I'm sure this problem I'm having is why the CEL is on, I just don't have a computer reader and I havent taken it by Advance yet to see the error code

On my F150, I never got a CEL. But twice, I received the message on the small text screen "Gas cap loose" (or something like that). Stopping, removing the cap (it was not loose) and reinstalling made the message go away.

Only happened twice, and never a CEL.

May not have been loose, but most likely not sealing. If it continues, I'd replace the gas cap.

Crawling back under the truck as soon as I get home tonight. Will post more pics and explain what I did, if I can fix it

After about 30 mins of searching under the truck tonight in the rain, I finally found the root of my problem! Just like BillLee, a dirt dobber had clogged up my evap line coming from the charcoal canister. Popped the line out, rammed it down over my antenna, washed it out with the water hose, dried it out with my wife's hair drier, and BOOM! Gas tank fills up exactly like it should! I will be glad to call my local Ford dealer and cancel my appointment I made for Wednesday, there's no telling how many hundreds of dollars that saved me tonight.

Tomorrow I will crawl back under and take some pictures, if it's not still raining, for guys that search this in the future.

In the context of this thread: no, not loose. Wasn't. Isn't.

Happens to me sometimes, I just put the nozzle in halfway and it works most of the time.

Yes, it kind of worked that way for me, too, but it obviously wasn't right. Rather than put up with it, I wanted it fixed. It wasn't supposed to be a system that required a "nozzle in halfway" and " works most of the time".

I couldn't get mine to fill up more than maybe a half gallon at a time. No matter what I did, put it all the way in, halfway out, almost all the way out, turned the handle sideways, upsidedown, nothing. It took me about 10 mins to finally fill up. Glad I ran across this thread and learned what to look for. Had it fixed in no time
